The average waist size had increased from 34.9 to 37.5 inches over the previous 20 years, according to the study, which looked at data from more than 5,500 American women. Susan Dunn, the primary investigator for the study, emphasizes the significance of the data by stating, “Knowing the average size can significantly impact women’s self-image.”
Co-authors Deborah Christel and Dunn implore the fashion industry to adapt to these changes. “These women are here to stay, and they deserve clothing that fits them,” Dunn asserts.
The message is clear: clothing makers need to modify their sizing recommendations to more accurately reflect the true shape and size of the modern American woman.
