I quickly discovered a more serious problem that threatened to split our family apart, leaving me feeling frustrated and perplexed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-80\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1699888\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>It began as any other night would. As usual, my wife was scrolling through her iPad while relaxing in her recliner. I initially thought it was just a little whimper and ignored it. However, the sobbing became more intense and louder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-32\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cDaddy! Daddy!\u201d The sound of the running water was interrupted by my son\u2019s voice.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-81\">\n<div id=\"usa-people.com_responsive_2\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>I hurried to his room after turning off the water and grabbing a towel. My wife was still absorbed in her iPad as I walked through the family room, apparently oblivious to the mayhem that was taking place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou were unable to soothe him?\u201d With a stronger tone than I meant, I asked.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-80\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1699888\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI tried three times,\u201d she said bluntly, without even raising her gaze.<\/p>\n<p>That was it. No urgency, no worry. It was only a casual comment. Despite my growing aggravation, I rushed to our son\u2019s room to console him.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t have been prepared for what I discovered. My son was sobbing so hard that he was sitting up in bed.
